The Creation of Paraíso Ahimsa: A Journey of Faith, Determination, and Dreams

When does someone who left the corporate world to become a yoga teacher decide to embark on the adventure of building a sanctuary in the heart of nature? This question, which might seem like a riddle, is actually the beginning of my own story of personal and spiritual transformation. My name is Julia, and I want to share how a vision, a dream, and the deep need for a more meaningful purpose gave life to Paraíso Ahimsa, a haven of peace and serenity on the Colombian coast.

From Corporate to Dream: A Radical Shift

I wasn’t always a yoga teacher. For years, I worked in the corporate world, following the path many see as safe and conventional. However, an inner voice I couldn’t ignore urged me to make a radical change. I decided to leave it all behind, dedicating a year of my life to a dream that was just beginning to take shape. When I truly started listening to myself, silencing the external voices dictating what I should do, I began pursuing my dreams with greater intensity.

Buying a Mountain: The Beginning of a Dream

The decision to buy a mountain wasn’t a meticulously planned strategy or an instant epiphany. It was a response to an internal need that had been growing. In moments of crisis, when the external noise fades and the inner silence grows louder, one hears oneself clearly. In one of those moments, I realized I needed a space where peace was not just practiced but lived and shared.

Nature’s connection had always been a cornerstone in my yoga practice and life. But I felt I had to go further. I wanted to create a place where others could reconnect with themselves, a space where the teachings of ahimsa —the principle of non-violence toward oneself and others— could thrive in every corner.

From Idea to Action

Building a sanctuary on the Colombian coast as a solo woman wasn’t easy. The challenges were many: from the logistical hurdles of constructing on virgin land to the doubts of those who questioned my ability to carry out such a project. But if yoga has taught me anything, it’s that true strength comes from internal resilience, not from the absence of challenges.

The first time I climbed to the top of the mountain that is now Paraíso Ahimsa, I was greeted by overwhelming silence, broken only by the whisper of the wind and the songs of birds. In that moment, I knew this was the place. No matter how difficult the path, here I would build a refuge where people could find the serenity I had discovered.

The Need to Create

Where does the need to build something so ambitious come from? Perhaps from the same source that drives an artist to create or a musician to compose. Paraíso Ahimsa was not just a physical project; it was an extension of myself, a way to manifest the values and principles that have guided me. Creating this space was my way of contributing to a world that needs more peace, more connection, and more love.

Is Everything Possible?

The creation of Paraíso Ahimsa has shown me that, while the path may seem impossible, dreams born from the heart have a way of making their way through. Every stone laid, every tree planted, and every space designed stands as a testament to the fact that with determination and passion, even the most improbable dreams can come true.

A Legacy of Peace

Today, Paraíso Ahimsa is much more than a physical space. It’s a place where people come to heal, learn, and reconnect with what truly matters. Every visit, every yoga session, and every moment of meditation is a reminder that the effort was worth it.

If you ever wonder if everything is possible, remember that the greatest opportunities to listen, believe, and build often lie in moments of uncertainty. Because sometimes, all you need is a mountain, a dream, and the courage to take the first step.
